How to prep your commercial property for winter

That long, cold and dark winter season is quickly approaching and one of the most important things you can do as a business owner is to be prepared for it! Here are a few simple and easy steps to take to ensure your business is ready for winter and an easy spring clean up!

#1. Drain all sprinkler systems.

It is easy to forgot but extremely costly if the lines blow due to frozen water! The thaw and freeze cycle of the northeast will often cause water to expand and rupture water lines costing up to thousands of dollars. This will save money and the hassle.

#2. Clean out your gutters

We all know the weight of leaves and debris mixed with snow and ice can rip gutters off the building. Imagine how bad it would be if they fell onto product or a customer vehicle causing damage. It can be a pain but it is worth removing the debris now instead of installing new gutters in the spring.

Another great option is installing helmet gutters to ensure no branches, leaves or debris ever enter them. There are a few local dealers in the Corning / Elmira / Ithaca area.

#3. Hire a professional plow company.

Make sure they have the right equipment, reputation and insurance! Even a small dusting will need proper attention to make sure your business can operate at full capacity. The snow will not go away but you should still be at full operational power!
